Ruskin for All

Ruskin for All is an educational initiative run by the Ruskin Foundation. The Foundation is a registered charity that was established to increase knowledge and awareness of the ideas and work of John Ruskin. (For more information about the work of the Foundation go to www.ruskin.org.uk)

Since 2004 Ruskin for All has worked towards engaging new audiences with the ideas of Ruskin.

In 2005 we launched our first Ruskin comic called "How to be Rich". The comic has been very successful with prisons and schools who have used the comic for a wide range of applications.

Prison Work

Our work in prisons has taken other forms too. In Haverigg Prison we have worked to help offenders launch a new newspaper. We have recently secured new funding to allow us to expand this project. We have appointed a project worker who will work a day a week in the prison. The Haverigg Seagull Newspaper is now going to be distributed to the wider communities of Millom, and West Cumbria, and will become a community resource.

How to See - A Campaign for Visual Literacy

We have over the past year been developing a new project called 'How to See'. The project will have several strands to it. We are producing 15,000 copies of a new Ruskin comic aimed at 8 years and upwards. We are hoping to work with 10 partner organisations and collaborate in running and developing looking and seeing events, activities and workshops. The campaign will be launched in early 2008. Visual literacy was something that Ruskin deeply valued.

Thanks

We would like to thank all our funders for their support. The Tudor Trust, The Pilgrim Trust, Awards for All, the Local Network Fund, The Ragdoll Foundation, The Garfield Weston Foundation, and BBC Children Need.
