New Comic - 'How to See' Due Out early 2008

The second Ruskin comic is just in the production stages. It is once again bringing together the fantastic creative team of Hunt Emerson and Kevin Jackson.

'How to See ' will be a journey led by our three characters of John Ruskin, Darren Bloke, and Skittle the dog. They will be exploring ideas around looking and seeing. Visual literacy was a major part of Ruskin's philosophy.

The 'How to See' comic will be part of the 'How to See - A Camapign for Visual Literacy', which will be launched in the spring of 2008. Several Galleries and Museums across the North West of England will be collaborating with us on this campaign.

How to Be Rich

“How to be Rich” is a comic produced by the Ruskin Foundation. The comic is a cartoon story about an ordinary man called Darren Bloke who wins the lottery. The story explores some of the ideas of John Ruskin.

Ruskin’s most famous book was called “Unto this Last", and it is from this book that the comic lifts its inspiration.

The comic is not meant to replace the original Ruskin book, but it simply takes a handful of the clearest and most powerful points Ruskin puts forward and modifies them for the twenty-first century. This is not, we think, so alien to Ruskin’s spirit as it might look. For one thing, he was a great advocate of education through visual means. For another, some of the most unforgettable parts of “Unto this Last” take the form of little stories or parables.

Hunt Emerson illustrated the comic, and Kevin Jackson wrote it.

The comic has been hugely popular with young people and teachers alike. Here are some comments we have received from readers;

"Excellent"

"Very readable"

"Lots of mileage in it, pupil friendly. They can appreciate the message"

"The format encouraged readers to look at it. Very worthwhile."
